Book Review: Flashback by J. Michael Hunter

[photopress:SCBflashback.jpg, full, alignleft]Laura McClain likes her never-changing life. She’s lived in the same apartment since she was little, she has a comfortable job as a schoolteacher, and a caring roommate. Still, there’s a nightmare that keeps plaguing her. Is her mind playing tricks on her, or is this murderous nightmare a reality?
The dream hasn’t happened for a while, but when it starts coming back, it coincides with the death of Laura’s aunt – a wealthy tobacco plantation owner. Laura’s namesake, her aunt Laura Buford, has left her her estate with one condition: she must live on the property for three years before she can have full ownership. After much consideration, Laura leaves her comfortable life behind and moves to Virginia.
The nightmare doesn’t stop when she gets to the small town of Bufordville. It gets worse, and Laura starts to realize that it’s not fiction – she’s remembering something from her past. With the help of new friends, Laura embarks on a journey to find the killer in her mind.
Author J. Michael Hunter weaves a simple yet interesting mystery web – almost like an old 1950’s or 1960’s thriller. While elementary in plot, it does have surprising twists and it was well thought out enough that all of the pieces fit tightly together.
I would recommend Flashback for LDS mystery lovers, ages 12 and up. It’s definitely worth the read.
