The topic of the Second Coming has a tendency to strike fear in the hearts of everyone, especially teenagers. Roger A. McKenzie’s new release, “How Awesome Will It Be? A Teenager’s Guide to Understanding and Preparing for the Second Coming” will not only ease those fears, but will practically make you excited for all of those events leading up to the glorious time when our Savior comes again.

Let me just say this first: I’m not a teenager, and you really don’t have to be one to read this book. Sure, some of the language is a little cheesy (it IS written for teenagers, after all), but the doctrine is laid out so simply that those of us adults that have trouble understanding the doctrine of the Second Coming will want to read this book to brush up on our knowledge.

“How Awesome Will It Be?” is an easy read – I read it in just a day. You won’t find flowery language or hard to understand concepts – just the facts. Author Roger A. McKenzie knows his stuff when it comes to the Second Coming, and he presents it in a format teenagers can grasp on to. He splits his chapters up into four sections: Understanding the Second Coming, The Signs of the Second Coming, What Will Happen When He Comes?, and Preparing for the Second Coming. Don’t be scared by the amount of chapters (there’s 34) – they’re all fairly short (the books is only 158 pages long). McKenzie covers everything from plagues of flies to the apostles in Jerusalem to the Millenium.

McKenzie’s main point in writing this book not to scare teenagers into being good – it was to make them feel more reassured about what they could be doing to prepare for this great event. He takes more of the “if ye are prepared ye shall not fear” approach instead of the usual hellfire and damnation stance. It’s a great resource, and I have to say, I really liked it (but don’t tell your teenagers they’ll like it – they’ll end up not reading it just to spite you!)

I would recommend this book not only for teenagers, but for all of the teenagers at heart out there. It’s a great resource for Sunday School and Seminary teachers as well.
