Pamela Hansen never intended to gain 100 pounds, but after a few years and some terrible family tragedies, eating became a way of dealing with the stresses in her life. It only took one walk around the park to make her decide that the time was NOW to change her life.
Author Pamela Hansen isn’t looking for pity with her book, “Running with Angels”. On the contrary, she wants to give hope to people who are struggling in their own lives and need the motivation to get up and go and make a change in their lives.
Having said that, after reading the book, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Pam. Within about 10 years, she gave birth to seven children, lost two of them, and had two other children diagnosed with severe illnesses. I think it’s safe to say that anyone in her position would have felt the desperation that she did. It wasn’t surprising to learn that she gained 100 pounds during this time in her life, but it’s pretty awesome that she lost it with sheer motivation.
It took the death of her last child to finally wake her up to the realization that she needed to lose the weight. She started out with walks around the park and a membership to Weight Watchers, and within a mere year and a half, she had not only lost 105 pounds, but she’d also completed a marathon.
“Running with Angels” is an inspirational book that will lead you not only through Pam’s trials, but what it took for her to succeed with her weight loss program. Even though I’m not even close to being in her situation, I thought her story was wonderful, and that her example of perserverance could be used with more than just losing weight.
I would highly recommend this book for those of us that need a little kick in the pants when it comes to weight loss. Pam shows us that there’s more to weight loss than just exercise and eating right – we also need the Lord.
