Saints and Soldiers on DVD
May 24

At the end of May Saints and Soldiers, the WWII epic of faith in time of war will be available on DVD. If you saw it in theaters, then you’ll want to own it at home. If you haven’t had the chance, the movie is a great watch.
Order it at Deseret Book. Read more for a more detailed review.
Based on actual events, the story follows a group of soldiers caught behind enemy lines. Their quest for survival becomes a unique exploration of war, faith and sacrifice. The cast are newcomers (with the exception of Kirby Hayborne) but they deliver a convincing performance. The film moves along well with suspense, action and drama.
As the five soldiers work their way to safety they find themselves part of a desperate mission to save Allied soldiers and rely on the skills and quick-thinking of a soldier who happens to be a returned missionary. In the end they discover the value of relationships and loyalty.
Watching the DVD reminded me of how much I enjoyed the film. Even on the small screen, the movie retains its impact. If you’re expecting a shoot ‘em up John Wayne war flick, you’ll be disappointed. The film has a pretty serious tone. Saints and Soldiers is a refreshing break from high budget, low thought war movies we’re used to.
Extra features include a behind-the-scenes look at what went into the movie. You’ll gain a whole new appreciation for the film after hearing the personal perspectives from the cast and crew.
The DVD will be available May 31st. The movie is not needlessly violent, but it isn’t for kids. Its perfect for adults and young adults looking for an compelling story with action and adventure.
